<b>Location.</b> Located on a thirty-acre slope overlooking Kahului Bay, the Kona Hawaiian Village enjoys a convenient setting in Kailua Kona, Hawaii. The Kailua Village shopping center is just two blocks from the property, as are fantastic beaches for sunning, surfing and snorkeling. Part of the allure of the Big Island is its contrasting geology. Active volcanoes, shimmering waterfalls, snowcapped mountains, tropical rainforests, a glacial lake and miles upon miles of golden, black, white and even green-sand beaches occupy an area smaller than the state of Connecticut. Guided walking tours of the historic Kailua-Kona area make great daytime excursions, and there are plenty of recreational pursuits available, including scuba diving, horseback riding, kayaking, golfing and parasailing. <br><b>Hotel Features.</b> Fruit trees and colorful flowers line paths that meander around rustic bungalows with palm-thatched roofs. The resort features several outdoor pools, jetted tubs and a fitness center. Volleyball and tennis courts are located on site, as are putting greens. <br><br><b>Guestrooms.</b> Each of the two-bedroom, two-bathroom bungalows offers a full kitchen with a refrigerator, range, dishwasher and microwave oven. Entertainment amenities include CD stereos, cable television and VCRs. <br><br><b>Expert Tip.</b> One interesting attraction is the Kula Kai Caverns and Lava Tubes, a labyrinth of lava tubes and caves, carved out over the last thousand years and crisscross the slopes of Mauna Loa near South Point. Tour choices range from one-half hour tour to a more adventuresome 2-hour caving trip. Helmets, lights, gloves and knee pads are provided. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
